Buying With Pilton Auctions

Buying With Pilton Auctions

Buying with us is an easy process.  Like with any auction house, you submit your bid and hope that its the highest one.  On the auction day, the winning bid wins the item.  Simple as that.  Once you’ve seen something you want to buy, there are several ways to place your bid.

  1. Come into the auction house, register your details, leave a bid (either before or during the auction).
  2. Phone us, register your details, leave a bid.
  3. Register with EasyLive Auctions or, and either leave a bid in advance of the auction or bid LIVE (this gives you the best opportunity to get exactly what you want!).

If you are successful at the auction then you’ll need to arrange payment with us and collection as soon as possible.

Please note that our Homewares & Interiors Auctions and our Antique & Collectables Auctions are held at our Sale Room in Pilton.

Buying in an auction for the first time can be a scary, but exciting process.  We get asked lots of questions, so the below F.A.Q might help.  But don’t be afraid to ask if you are unsure about anything.

Yes.  Fees vary slightly depending on how you made your bid.  If you made your bid over the phone, or came into the auction house, then the only fee you have to consider is the 22% buyers premium, plus VAT (minimum £1 per lot).

VAT is payable on the buyers premium not on the the actual item purchased, unless clearly stated.

If you made your bid online via EasyLiveAuction then you will have been informed of the additional fees before placing your bid.  These are:

3% on top of the buyers premium (only if you selected “free registration”) or a flat £3 fee (you will not be charged the 3%).  Which option you choose is up to you.  If you plan on bidding for larger, more expensive items, it can sometimes be better to pay the £3.  For small items, its much cheaper to register for free and pay the 3% extra on top of the buyers premium.

If you made your bid online via you will be subject to a fee of 4.95% + VAT.

You can leave a commission bid with the auctioneers.  You decide the maximum you wish to pay and we will bid on your behalf.

You can also bid over the telephone.  Please note lines are limited so please book in advance.

However, we do feel that the best way to bid is to view the sale live as it happens and bid in real time.
